The breed of Persian cats is divided into further families where a few of their characteristics tend to vary. Mainly the difference is in the color of their coats and a closer observation reveals further details in which they tend to differ. The Chinchilla breed in particular has some very strikingly different characteristics that make it special.
In 1908 with the Chinchilla Cat Club established, the cats started being exported to the United States. To really know and appreciate a Chinchilla Persian cat you need to make sure it’s a pure-bred cat, and to distinguish whether it surely is a Chinchilla Persian cat or not is to observe the color of its coat since that is the basis on which Persian cats are categorized. The extent of colored hair can vary. For instance a Persian with a black coat, the color would be on only about 1/7th of the hair.

Chinchilla Persian Cat Types

In general a Chinchilla Persian cat has an undercoat of pure white and the fur on the back, head, tail and flanks is tipped black that gives off a characteristic of a sparkling silver coat. The legs of these cats can sometimes be slightly sprinkled with black tips whereas the chin, ear tuffs, chest and stomach are always pure white. The main alluring characteristic about these cats is the darkened rim of the eyes that would make you consider them as wearing eye makeup. Also the lips and nose are outlined black.

Silver Shaded Persians

Then there is the Silver Shaded, which has more of a variety in the tips of its colored coat. The colors can interestingly range from lilac and blue to chocolate. This makes the Silver Shading have more ‘shadows’ in its coat as compared to the Chinchilla. You can imagine the wonderful shadowy effect the coat would give off.

Golden Shaded Persian Cats

Also there is the Golden Shaded where the underlying coat is multi colored which again is magnificent and a treat to see because of the wonderful effect it gives to the coat of the cat. Furthermore there is a variety known as the Cameo Persian which has some red in the tips of the coat.
All these cats are known for their beautiful dark rimmed eyes, nose and mouth, except for the Golden shaded whose eyes and nose is outlined in brown instead of black. The eye color of these cats is primarily supposed to be green or blue-green. This established characteristic in all Chinchilla, Golden Shaded, Silver Shaded and Cameo Persian cats helps to distinguish the pedigree because a pure-bred cat’s eye color will be either green or blue-green.

Chinchilla Care

You will find this cat to be rather intelligent and will follow its owner from room to room with the tones its meows changing according to its moods and wants. This cat is rather playful and likes a lot of attention. Being of a playful nature a healthy cat would thoroughly enjoy the opportunity of a garden to play in. For the maintenance of the Chinchilla Persian cat; its coat needs to be brushed everyday and it needs to be bathed on regular basis since its coat is long and thick.
